Rhome | The unexpected side of a city
Only in this place consecrated by millennia, everything that was and will be is able to coexist with all the rest: highs and lows, old and new, religion and impiety, splendor and misery, even God and the Devil seem to have settled a stable and enduring balance in that city, where everything has already happened and not once! One thousand times. - (Sebastiano Vassalli)
Rome is one of the most tourist-loved places in the world. Beneath its stereotyped postcard-friendly surface lurks an idiosyncratic, mysterious and sensual city, a panorama of lives, situations and places that a tourist would never experience. With this work we delved into the unexpected side of Rome, remapping the city according to our personal vision. We portrayed the vices and virtues of the daily life and after wriggling out from the city center we started exploring the metaphysical suburbia. We approached the multifaceted underground scene, we spent our time in small local bars and we slowly got connected with a great diversity of people. We wanted to show what happens inside the houses, witness splinters of private lives, atmospheres, stories and circumstances out of the ordinary. The hidden scenery we discovered, opened up a renewed perception, that brought us closer to unveil the spirit of the Eternal City.
